We’re always delighted when Petri Raisanen honours Yogaplace with a visit. Petri is an internationally known and well-respected Ashtanga Yoga teacher. He is a devoted student of his Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009), who authorized Petri in 2001 to teach Ashtanga Yoga. Petri carefully passes on Guruji’s exact teachings.
In addition to teaching yoga, Petri introduces you to energy healing, which he learned from Finnish masters in 1986 and also practised in the natural treatment business he ran in Helsinki for almost a decade. Today, Petri focuses on integrating healing and therapy with yoga in his workshops, always meeting your individual needs and guiding your personal progress. Petri's yoga pose adjustments are gentle, effective, therapeutic and, according to some, almost magical. His friendly, relaxed behaviour and intuitive perception give an open, energetic and meditative atmosphere to his classes.

We will focus on poses in the Primary (first) and the Intermediate (Secondary) series of Ashtanga Yoga. The poses, vinyasa, breathing, drishti (and adjustments) follow in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, as they are taught in Mysore, India. Furthermore, we will practice several energy-healing techniques in Finnish tradition. You do not need any previous energy-healing experience or special skills to join, which makes this workshop attractive for anyone interested in yoga, healing and understanding body-mind interaction. Asana adjustments - more than just physical support
The main theme of this course is that adjustments are more than just physical support for the yoga positions. The ideal yoga adjustment incorporates the aspects that make up the Ashtanga Yoga tradition - along with the teacher's knowledge and life experience - combined with a therapeutic touch, healing treatment and the love of giving. This is the recipe for establishing long-term trust between the student and teacher while developing the practice naturally, as the body and mind slowly open up and obstacles are removed. Every adjustment will be safe and gentle, but at the same time deep and effective. It is not possible to accomplish a good adjustment without an understanding of the body, psychology, posture technique, alignment, breath and movement of prana.

Petri wrote two books:
- A book on the primary series "Ashtanga Yoga - Yoga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois" (published in English in April 2013 by Yoga Words). Price: €27,50 (+€2,95 shipment), available through our webshop.
This beautifully laid out Ashtanga book about asanas (poses), breathing techniques and the yoga philosophy was written by Petri Raisanen, from his interviews with Sri K Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois in 2003-2004. The book was fully edited in 2013. It is suitable for both beginners, advanced students and teachers.
- On the method of how to get in and out of the positions, the therapeutical aspects in the Intermediate Series positions, the exact Vinyasa system (Karma) with breath and movement, and the detailed asana adjustments in theory and practice, Petri wrote the book "Nadi Sodhana". This book is also based on his interviews with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and it is the only document available on the benefits of the asanas in the Intermediate Series. The book is available in English since 2015.
