Introduction to Pranayama practice
with Marilou van Hoek
Pranayama (breathing technique) can be a very powerful practice if you are willing to invest some time in it. It can establish the basis from which you can grow and develop mentally and physically towards a deeper form of maturity.
In this workshop the regular practice of simple breathing techniques cleanses and stabilises body and mind. The breath flowing freely provides access to your inner world, and can lead to a deeper state of meditation.
This practical workshop offers a safe introduction to the Pranayama Practice. We will practise the Kriyas (cleansing techniques) and specific, simple Pranayama techniques of concentration, meditation and mantra. Also you will learn to start a regular pranayama practice at home.
All levels are welcome.
Born in the Philippines, Marilou came to the Netherlands in her teens. She feels blessed with the best of both worlds: East and West. Ever since she came in contact with yoga she has developed a passion for Astanga Yoga and Pranayama, which she applies both in her classes and her everyday life. Besides her daily practice she studies regularly to deepen her knowledge and understanding of yoga philosophy, chanting and meditation. She feels greatly indebted to her inspiring teachers: Katiza Satya, Richard Freeman, Paul Dallaghan and Pranayama Master Sri O.P. Tiwariji, head of the Kaivalyadham Research Institute near Mumbai, India.
With love and passion, Marilou offers a variety of yoga classes: Astanga Led, Mysore and Primary Series. She also teaches Pranayama workshops and classes at Yoga Moves and other yoga studios. Her classes are fun and inspirational, allowing space for growth both on and off the mat.
Marilou sees yoga as a quest for spirituality and awareness. It not only provides a stable basis for everyday life, but a lot of fun too. She loves inspiring her students with her passion. “Pranayama is the basis of my day. My daily practice gives me access to my soul and inner life. I feel one with my body, and experience a state of Bliss. It is the perfect foundation for my Astanga practice.”
